It's quiet in the woods, as you carefully push the bushes aside and step onto the path. The twilight is coming closer now, and you catch yourself wondering if you shouldn't have went the other way, when you had the chance.
But if you had, you would never get the chance to see the fairies.
You hear whispering from the flowers and the top of the trees and feel someone watching you, but wherever you may turn your gaze, there is no-one.
Suddenly you hear a strange sound, it is hard to figure out what it is, it sounds as a mixture between movement in leaves and a star falling from the sky.
"Who is there??" you yell and try to figure out where from the sound came, but fail.
You hear a murmur and someone giggling, and finally you hear a voice answering you.
"Cooo-eeeeee!" it yells, it's a young, female voice, which is obvious by the loud giggling you hear shortly after. Then someone whispers, "Foolish human." More laughter.
"I'm sorry about the young-ones." a calm voice says, and you turn around as if expecting to see the dead walking, but instead, right before your eyes, you see a small creature in a long dress that seems to be woven of moonlight and silver strings. The creature is also the proud owner of a pair of white wings, which is fluttering slowly to keep the fairy in the air.
The fairy, it is now obvious even to you, that this is what the creature is, gives you a short smile. "I'm MoonShadow." she says and extends a tiny hand.
You stare at it for a second then carefully take it and give it a short shake, then quickly let go, afraid that you might hurt this delicate fairy with your big hands.
"No need to be nervous." says the fairy, "We won't hurt you."
"Err … right …" you say, not wanting to offend anyone.
"I suppose you want to find out where you are, right?" MoonShadow gives you another smile, "Or do you rather want to go through the other path? It's up to you, mortal."
You hesitate shortly, should you choose the safe path or should you follow the fairy?
